If you’re after the hippest bottle of bubbly in the capital, look no further than Renegade Urban Winery‘s London Sparkling 2016 Blanc de Noirs. Located under a railway arch near East London’s Bethnal Green Tube station, the team at this London urban winery are putting their heart and soul into every bottle they produce. This is an urban winery you’ll want to visit!
London Sparkling 2016 Blanc de Noirs
This gorgeous sparkling wine is made in the traditional Champenoise method from Suffolk-grown, basket pressed Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes that underwent primary fermentation in ex-Burgundy, Chardonnay oak wine barrels. While in barrel, the wine was manually stirred on the lees (dead yeast cells) to further impart more complexities, aromas and flavours in the wine. After undergoing malolactic fermentation, the wine was then hand-bottled and underwent secondary fermentation and further ageing for one year in the crypt of Christ Church Spitalfields. The bottles were then hand disgorged and 5g/L dosage was added before corking.

Upon arrival, the presentation box and metallic wine label were so impressive, yet stylishly understated. The closure wasn’t covered in foil and exposed the rustic cork and cage, offering an elegant, yet industrial vibe, very London chic! It’s the small things that make a huge difference!
A beautiful golden colour fills your glass along with a vibrant effervescence. On the nose you’ll detect subtle orchard fruit aromas along with yeasty, toasted brioche notes. A fantastic medley of red apples, white cherry, mandarin zest and toasted almond flavours will delight your palate. Finally, a refreshing level of acidity and rounded mouthfeel paired with flavours and aromas that continue to linger on a lengthy finish create a memorable experience.
With only 800 bottles having been produced, you’ll definitely want to grab a bottle.
