The Vigneview Verdict
This Bocopa Bodegas Alcanta Crianza 2018 from the Alicante DOP in Spain is a real stunner! A blend of Tempranillo and Monastrell grapes gives this wine great structure and a winning flavour and aroma profile. As this is labelled ‘crianza’, the wine has been aged in American and French oak barrels for 12 months and then aged in bottle for another year.

Compared to the Alcanta Vino Mediterraneo red blend, this wine is a bit more red fruit focused and has a rounded mouthfeel with smoother tannins on the palate. Additionally, as this wine is a crianza, the flavours and aromas are a bit more savoury and add a toastiness to the palate that you would naturally associate with oak ageing. The fact that this blend is lacking the Cabernet Sauvignon enables the red fruit flavours and aromas of strawberry and red cherry to really come alive. Additionally, the subtle sweet spice, balsamic notes and leather aromas are so complementary. This is a lovely wine and great with food!
Food Pairing
I would pair this Bocopa Bodegas Alcanta Crianza 2018 with lightly seasoned, barbecued pork chops. The toasted oak notes along with the red fruit, spice and leather flavours of the wine perfectly complement this dish.
Cheers! x
