Aldi’s Specially Selected ~ 2020 Bowler and Brolly English Rosé Cuvée

The Vigneview

I think that this Aldi Specially Selected 2020 Bowler and Brolly English Rosé Cuvée is such fantastic value for money. At only £8.99 a bottle, it’s a bargain, as far as British wines are concerned and award wining (2021 Bronze IWSC award). After reading some of the online reviews, I had mixed feelings about buying this rosé. However, after trying it for myself, my palate was delighted and I think you will be too!

Bowler and Brolly English Rosé

Champagne’s Holy Trinity (Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay) along with Reichensteiner and Müller-Thurgau make this a truly clever cuvée. As the English climate tends to be a bit cooler, the traditional Champagne grapes may not ripen fully. This can lead to less than desirable amounts of sugar, lower alcohol levels after fermentation and less complex aromas and flavours. However, adding Reichensteiner provides a bit more sugar to the mix, thus boosting the alcohol level, while Müller-Thurgau enhances the blend with floral aromas and stone-fruit flavours. Enough said…I’m loving the logic behind this rosé cuvée!!

I adore the colour spectrum of rosé wines and the beautiful pale salmon pink hue of this one is gorgeous. A delicate floral nose of fresh orange blossoms and ripe peach awakened my senses, followed by mouthwatering grapefruit, melon and subtle strawberry notes on a lingering finish.  This off-dry beauty will add a little sweetness to your weekend. Go ahead and buy a bottle or two…I did! It’s bliss in a bottle and I think you’ll agree that this is a summer-worthy rosé.

Food Pairing

Serve this Aldi Specially Selected 2020 Bowler and Brolly English Rosé Cuvée chilled and pair it with my Sticky Sweet Chilli Chicken Drumsticks recipe and a side of roasted vegetable couscous. The subtle off-dry sweetness of this rosé doesn’t compete with the heat from the chilli and adds a lovely complementary sugary note along with a long-lasting citrus finish with a tongue tantalising chalky minerality. You’re gonna love it!

Cheers! x
